NCCT Research: Television Viewing of the Filipino Children
The National Council for Children’s Television (NCCT) kicked off in March its research titled “Television Viewing of the Filipino Children: A Research on Children’s Television Viewing Habits, Amount of Exposure, and Program Preferences of Children in Public and Private Schools in the Philippines.”

This research aims to provide NCCT and its partner agencies with baseline data on the current television-viewing trends among Filipino children. Pursuant to NCCT’s mission to explore the impact of television on children, a nationwide survey was conducted in randomly selected public and private elementary and secondary schools.

In June, the research field supervisors who facilitated the survey were gathered in a focus group discussion (FGD). The FGD sought to gather information on the culture and context in the different areas where the supervisors were deployed. Consultant and statistician Aizobelle Huelgas presented the initial findings of the research.

The NCCT-funded research was participated in by 4,394 school children. The research was launched on December 8, 2015. During its presentation, the pilot episode of “Oyayi,” the first NCCT co-funded children’s television program, was also be screened for the first time in public.
