The National Council for Children’s Television (NCCT) bags 2 Silver Anvils during the 53rd Anvil Awards “Gabi ng Parangal” held last March 23 at Shangri-La Hotel at The Fort, Taguig City.

The Anvil Awards is a recognition given by the Public Relations Society of the Philippines to the best PR programs and tools in the country. With 450 entries submitted from different public and private institutions, NCCT was awarded Silver Anvils under Public Relations Program on a Sustained Basis, Education/Literacy Category for both its flagships programs TeleBibo and UUMT.

TeleBibo is a three-day Media and Television Literacy Seminar-Workshop targeted towards youth from primary and secondary schools in the Philippines. The program aims to yield the nation with media and information literate children that can contribute in the production and promotion of quality children’s television programs. The Council believes that it will only be possible if the children will be geared with necessary skills that will help them to recognize the value and use of media and the dynamics of the Philippine TV and to critically evaluate and analyze different media products and materials.

UUMT or “Understanding and Utilizing Media in Teaching”, is also a three-day seminar-workshop that aims to promote Media Literacy among Basic Education Teachers in Public and Private Schools. The program features lectures on understanding media text and environment, sessions on critical thinking, and activities on the integration of media literacy in classroom discussion through demonstration teachings. With this, NCCT envisions to empower and encourage basic education teachers to teach media and with the media.

Both programs were conceptualized by the NCCT’s Officers with great contribution of several experts in Media and Information Literacy, Education, Child Development, and PR sectors. TeleBibo and UUMT are services offered for free to children and teachers across the country.
