In this age of advancement of technology, it is important that children of this era be sheltered with values and awareness that will help them become responsible citizens. One concern, among many others, is the fact that children have easy access to media such as TV programs, but are not specifically designed for them. This led to the production of the new child friendly television (CFTV) program Oyayi. The program, which was co-produced by the National Council for Children’s Television (NCCT) and Christian Broadcasting Networks Asia (CBN Asia), is set to premiere on October 23, 2016 at local TV network ABS-CBN.
Oyayi, which means lullaby in the Filipino language, was based on Fernando Rosal Gonzales’ story of the same title. The story won during NCCT’s Nationwide Search for the Coolest Television Proposal in 2012 and is a grantee of its National Endowment Fund.
Characters of the story include Tarsiera (tarsier), Diva Butanding (whale shark), Tama Raw (tamaraw), Bon Haribon (Philipine eagle), and Dok Pil (mouse deer) who are classified as Philippine’s endangered species. They all live in the island of Oyayi together with Kuya Maki (Icko Gonzales, aka Kuya Bok from Sine’skwela), as they help children develop Filipino values, love for family, nature, culture and arts, and awareness about different issues in the environment. On the other hand, the villain Kuwago Zhibago, will try to stop them and so the gang will encounter different challenges every week.
Oyayi will surely be a program both children, parents, and teachers will like. Catch the gang every Sunday, starting on October 23, 9:30AM at ABS-CBN channel 2.
