Cinepambata turns seven
The CinePambata Video Festival, an annual showcase of films for and about children and one of the flagship projects of the National Council for Children’s Television (NCCT), celebrates its seventh year this 2015.
NCCT annually holds CinePambata in celebration of the National Children’s Month. CinePambata features the finalists in its One-Minute Video and Short Film Competitions.
Endorsed by DepED Memorandum No. 84, s. 2015, CinePambata’s One-Minute Video Competition received 244 entries on the theme “Role of Filipino Children in Nation-Building” from schools all over the Philippines.

Meanwhile, out of 38 entries to the Short Film Competition for established, up-and-coming, and college student filmmakers, the top five finalists are: “Ang Nanay Kong Superhero” and “Kusina ni Clara” by Nikki Ferriols, “Asan Si Lolo Me?” by Sari Estrada, “Bimyana” by Kim Zuñiga, and “Nenok” by Milo Tolentino.
These films tell the story of a young girl who sees her mom as superhero, a teenager and grandmother who communicate through food and cooking, a mother trying to spare her son from grief by telling him his grandpa turned into a goat, an Ayta girl who continues to dream and excel despite challenges, and a young boy and petty thief who finds a temporary home in a church.
Entries were judged according to relevance to theme, technical quality, originality and creativity, and overall impact. Board of Judges was composed of film professor and creator of media content for children Libay Linsangan Cantor, filmmaker Sigrid Andrea P. Bernardo, and former NCCT Executive Director and thespian, Frank G. Rivera.
CinePambata will be shown on November 7 at SM City Pampanga, November 14 at SM City Cebu, November 28 at SM City General Santos, and December 12 at SM City Santa Rosa. Metro Manila film showing and awarding ceremony will be held on December 5 at SM Megamall. Admission is free.
The 7th CinePambata Video Festival is presented by NCCT in partnership with EDGE Manila Creatives Corporation.
